GOSHEN, Ind. — In response to the damage caused by the 2025 wildfires, Everence® is announcing the launch of the California Wildfire Assistance Grants program. This initiative will provide up to $75,000 in funding to help churches in California offer critical support to individuals and families impacted by the crisis.

Grants of up to $3,000 are available to churches in and around Los Angeles County, California, that are active Everence Stewardship Partners program participants or are part of an Everence-affiliated denomination or church network, and are providing immediate relief and long-term recovery assistance. The funds may be used for needs such as emergency housing, food, clothing, mental health counseling, transportation, and essential home repairs.

“Wildfires create unimaginable challenges for families and communities, leaving many without shelter, food, or emotional support. And the road to recovery after such a disaster takes time and effort,” said Ken Hochstetler, President and CEO at Everence. “Through these California Wildfire Assistance Grants, we hope to help churches meet the immediate needs of their members and empower them to rebuild stronger, more resilient communities for the future.”

In addition to the California Wildfire Assistance Grants, churches participating in the Everence Stewardship Partners program can apply for Sharing Fund grants to support attendees and community members. Each year, the Sharing Fund helps thousands of families meet basic needs through matching grants from congregations. In 2024, Everence distributed $990,000 in Sharing Fund grants, with an additional $1.25 million contributed by churches.

The California Wildfire Assistance Grants and Everence Sharing Funds are examples of the many ways Everence and its members provide financial support to those in need, through the organization’s long-standing commitment to community investment, grant-making, and charitable giving.

“As an organization founded on Anabaptist principles of community, generosity and stewardship, we are called to walk alongside our neighbors, especially in times of hardship,” said Hochstetler. “We are committed to supporting churches in their efforts to embody Christ’s love through service and mutual aid during this difficult time.”

Everence-affiliated churches wishing to apply for a California Wildfire Assistance Grant may do so until April 30, 2025. Full program details and the grant application form are available at everence.com/california-wildfire-assistance-grants.
