I grew up in Sugarcreek, Ohio, and went to Garaway High School. I am currently a senior at Bluffton University and majoring in math and economics with a minor in computer science. I really enjoy playing guitar, spending time with family and friends, and video games.

What is your role and where are you located?

I am the Actuarial Intern at the Goshen office on N. Main Street.

What is something you have learned in your internship?

While I constantly learn new things every day, probably the most important thing I have learned over the course of this internship is to be ok with failure. The workload needed to become an actuary is difficult, but my coworkers assured me they have all struggled too and that I am not alone, which was encouraging!

What has been your favorite project/task?

My favorite project that I have worked on has been running various Monte Carlo simulations – a technique to understand the impact of risk and uncertainty – to determine stop loss volatility (changing the amount of people involved and seeing how that affects stability of results).

How did you find Everence?

I found out about Everence when I was in Toronto with my economics department at school. We were there for the Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) convention, and I got to meet Mark Regier there, who told me I should apply for an internship.

What is something you like to do on the weekends?

On the weekends, I really like to sleep in, and lately I’ve been enjoying playing pickleball whenever I get the chance to!

What is your favorite local restaurant?

My favorite local restaurant so far has been Los Primos Mexican Grill.

What advice do you have for future interns at Everence?

My advice for future interns at Everence is to be ambitious! Your internship at Everence is the perfect time to ask questions about whatever you may be curious about, as well as take on different projects that you may not get the chance to try anywhere else!
