I'm a rising junior studying economics at the University of Virginia. I grew up in South Korea and Washington State before moving to Virginia for college. I enjoy running on a sunny day and exploring local coffee shops. My academic interests lie in finance, marketing, and economics, which align with my career aspirations.
What is your role and where are you located?
I am a Donor Relations Intern at Everence working in the Harrisonburg office.
What is something you have learned in your internship?
My role involves researching and collecting data on non-profit organizations across the state to expand Everence's customer relationship management (CRM) database, ensuring data accuracy and currency. Additionally, I handle front desk duties, assist with various side projects, and attend meetings and seminars to broaden my understanding of finance, marketing, and economics. One significant lesson I've learned during my internship is the power of communication. Effective communication is crucial for team success, client relationships, problem-solving, and marketing strategies. This experience has emphasized its importance and helped me improve my communication skills.
What has been your favorite project/task?
My favorite part of the internship has been building connections and networking. Meeting many wonderful people, both in and out of work, has been incredibly rewarding and has helped me develop valuable professional relationships.
How did you find Everence?
I discovered Everence through a university career website called Handshake where I was impressed by their mission and the opportunity to work with non-profit organizations. Their focus on making a positive impact resonated with my values and career aspirations.
What is something you like to do on the weekends?
On weekends, I enjoy exploring the local area, trying out new activities, and spending time with friends. Whether it's hiking in the nearby Shenandoah Valley or relaxing with a good book, I like to make the most of my free time.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
My favorite local restaurant is Bella Luna, a cozy Italian place in Harrisonburg known for its delicious wood-fired pizzas and welcoming atmosphere. It's a great spot to unwind and enjoy a good meal with friends.

My advice for future interns at Everence is to take full advantage of the networking opportunities and be open to learning from everyone around you. The experience will not only enhance your professional skills but also provide a deeper understanding of the non-profit sector.
